“In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place, oblige it to control itself.”
-Alexander Hamilton

This quote reflects what Alexander Hamilton thought about a centralized government, the government must be able have enough power and authority to govern the nation but at the same time the government must be virtuous enough to restrain from abusing of its own power. Hamilton believed that a new and stronger central government was required to correct the mistakes made in the government outlined in the Articles of Confederation, but many of the other delegates felt his ideas were too radical and labeled Hamilton as an extremist.
